The year was 1966 and Mizo National Front (MNF) started an Independent Movement against the Indian Government. The then Home Minister Gurfare (?) exploded and said, "Mizo marauders shall pay," and so dearly paid by the Mizo people and became an enemy of the country. What followed was bloodshed, raping and burning down the house of each and every village that the soldier came across. On march 5, three jet fighters with their bombs and ammunition flew over Aizawl City and destroyed many house and building and injured many people.
In order to protect her name, Indira Gandhi (PM) told Foreign Newspaper that these fighters were not bombing the city of Aizawl but delivered Ration for the people. This outrageous and shameful act was witnessed first hand by Mr CG Swell, by going to the epic centre and bring back undeniable proof. The lies and misinformation was strongly condemned by him at Lok Shaba sitting and told the truth to the people's representatives.
Till date, no one knows why the proclaimed lover of small state and her citizen, Mrs Gandhi attacked Mizo people so brutally that many lives were taken and became handicaped and homeless. Also why the Home Minister at that time Mr Lal Nanda, who is one of the greatest freedom fighter, brutally attacked the people of Mizoram, who are not very peaceful citizen. And why didn't the Gov't of India never invites the MNF to call for a truce first is still a mystery.
During this time, Mizoram and Meghalaya are one of the district of Assam Gov't and it was MNF who started the Freedom Movement not Garo, Khasi, Jaintia ect. Then, on 2nd January, 1972 Mizoram became Union Territory and Khasi and Jaintia and Garo district are in the State of Meghalaya. Not only that, the Chakma People, who aren't even a citizen of India and Mizoram are given a very large portion of Mizoram land as Chakma Autonomous District Council! Why did the Indian Gov't acted in this manners and so look down the people of Mizoram and her land divided is still a question to tha people of Mizoram.
Will there be any other Nations who would attack her people and leave a permanent scar at the heart of the people? Will there be any other Nation who instead of trying to resolve the problem and straight away use brutal force? The answer is definitely no, but stragely that was what had happened to the people of Mizoram. Yet, no apologies was ever offered to the people of Mizoram and no compensation ever paid.
During the British Rule in India, the people of Mizoram are the most obedient and peace loving people in the whole of India. Long after the British left, even under the Indian Gov't, we are still the most obedient and peace loving state in India, not because the Indian Gov't has given us any special privillage or attention but we just don't want any more troubles and problems that could cause another permanent scars and bloodshed to us and on our mind. Till date, we haven't pose any kind of threat and problems to the Indian Gov't while our neighbouring State like Manipur and Nagaland do so once in a while.
And for this sacrifice and devotion we gave, did we receive any special treatment or attentions, not that i know of and it seems that we won't be getting to soon. In the Indian Administration, people from Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Garo etc becomes Governor, Lok Shaba Speaker, Union Minister, Chief Election Commissioner, UPSC Chairman etc but never the people of Mizoram. We have many senior people in Central Service, but they are usually confined to Chief Secy but never a higher post. Why is that the Gov't is satisfied with just a Peace Bonus and nothing more? I want an answer to these questions.
As i mentioned earlier, the Chakma, who weren't even citizen of India are given an Autonomous Council within our land. Instead of becoming a part of Mizo Community, they live a separated community and their liberators creates problems time and time again to Mizo people. Recently, one Mizo Youth was brutally murdered by the Bru (Tuikuk) National Liberators Front in order to cause fear and havoc into the minds of the Mizo people and also to let the Central Gov't and Human Rights Group blame us.
These Bru people now wants an Autonomous within our State and put a heavy pressure to Indian Gov't. Most number of them are in the State of Tripura and wants to become a part of our community. Time and time again BNLF commits crime in the border where protection is not satisfactory. Our people near these borders live in fears and many a time harrased and they may die at the hands of BNLF in order to scare off our people so that they may seize our land. They force their own people from their peaceful area so that they can throw mud in our face.
Not only that, they have been giving false news and information to Indian leading Newspaper and file a complain to Human Rights as well. And the officials believe them and find it unnecessary to come and investigate in Mizoram. And when the State Gov't initiate their return programme to Mizoram, they don't want to. From now on, i demand that without proper investigation and verifiaction, do not blame the Mizo people for a crime we haven't done.
We may be peace loving people, but there's a limit beyond which we may not be so peaceful. Because of our land invasion, we will take necessary actions to save our land and its people. Nothing and no one will stand in our way to save our land and will never back down from fighting for our rights.
We maybe tribal, but we are one of the most intelligent people in India and have second highest literacy percentage and because of that, our central service officers must be given an opportunity to serve our great nation in Gov't Administration. All we need to show the world that we are trully indian is an opportunity, nothing more. We don't like foreign invaders like Chakma and Tuikuk (Bru) and we don't like to be treated as foreign not Indian.
Just because Mizo National Fronts was heavily defeated doesn't mean that we, the young generation are incompetent. We will take actions and if we do that, it will never be like the old days where the MNF has nothing in their position during the freedom movement to fight back the Indian army. Just because Bru people try to win the Indian Gov't to give them land for living and try to have a name in Mizoram doesn't mean that we, the Youth people will tolerate and do nothing to prevent their goal.
We just want the Human rights and Indian Gov't to come to our place and verify the accusation and take necessary right actions. If not, no one can say what will happen in the coming days. This is not a threat but constructive criticism and do hope that actions will be taken to ensure the safety of Mizo people and that of Bru and Chakma.
